When you open a new layer, the image is the same as the original, except that changes that you make on the new layer do not touch the original image. You can apply any changes to the new layer and change the original image as necessary. You have options for the kind of changes you make, from color adjustments and painting to freehand drawing. Many Photoshop changes depend on the image's type. You cannot save and close a layer if you're working with a vector-based (data-based) image. You must save the entire file for that to be successful. ## Lightroom Like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom also lets you make adjustments to images. Also like Photoshop, Lightroom has a number of editing tools that enable you to create sharp and detailed photo-editing masterpieces.
